Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah
Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah is the principal educational institute of the Dawoodi Bohra community. The academy has been functioning from its present campus in Surat, India for over two centuries with a sister campus inaugurated here at Karachi, Pakistan in 1404/1983. A third campus was established in Nairobi in 1432/2011 with the official inauguration taking place in 1438/2017. The construction of the latest campus in Mumbai, where classes commenced in 1434/2013 in temporary settings, is nearing completion. The campus in Karachi was inaugurated in 1983 by the former President of Pakistan, General Zia-ul-Haq.
The eleven-year programme covers secondary, undergraduate and graduate education. During their time at Aljamea, students study a range of subjects within the empirical sciences, social sciences and the humanities, as well as select languages. They also receive instruction in life and vocational skills and are able to pursue degrees in various fields from other institutions concurrent with their studies at Aljamea.
One of the most significant features of Aljamea isMahad al-Zahra. Established by the late Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin in 1976, Mahad al-Zahra is an institute of Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah dedicated to the recitation, memorisation and study of the sciences and arts of the Holy Quran. It is currently headed by Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin, son of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, current leader of the community.
